POLL: The impacts of COVID-19 on young people across Australia
This national opinion poll conducted by Essential Research on behalf of FYA in 2020, revealed the urgent need to put young people at the centre of the COVID-19 recovery.
Conducted by Essential Research on behalf of the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) in 2020, this poll highlighted the urgent need to put young people at the centre of the COVID-19 recovery.
The poll found 24% of young people aged 18-24 were in paid work before the COVID-19 outbreak aren’t anymore. An additional 22% who remain in paid work fear they will lose their jobs. And 60% of young people surveyed are concerned about their ability to find or change jobs in the long-term.
The data also demonstrates how lasting the impact of COVID-19 on young people will be. When asked about the future, young people recognised the long-term impacts on their financial security. More than a third of young people said it will be two or more years until their debts are paid off and worryingly, 10% of young people already think they’ll never pay off their debt. Almost one in five young people have withdrawn money from their superannuation.
